Hello friends!
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend. We attended mass as a family, and then came home and Joe and I cooked a large meal for everyone. I'm still stuffed!

We have lots of leftover ham, so my husband is going to make a pea soup with it tonight. Do you like pea soup? It's one of my favorites, but I don't like peas. I have know idea how that works, but it does. Oh and Faye, I made rolls using your bread recipe. They were DELICIOUS! Thank you!

This past week has been a busy one, as you can see from my photos. The nights are still a bit chilly, so rocking in front of a warm fire has become an evening thing for me....and Hollie. LOL!

Our granddaughter, Piper came over on Thursday and stayed until Sunday evening. She loves to play dress up. In the above picture she is wearing her lady bug dress wrong side out, and taking her baby Dora out for a stroll.

Angus finished his food and then fell asleep with his bowl on his head. Not sure how that happened, but I had to get a picture.

I found a really great rustic bread recipe on a friends blog. I am in love with her recipe! I had never cooked bread in my cast iron Dutch oven before. It came out perfectly! Thank you, Rhonda!!

My husband and I bought our youngest son and his girlfriend Redsox tickets for Christmas. They finally came last week. Now they are planning the rest of their trip to Boston. I have never been to a live ballgame before, but I'm thinking it's got to be a lot more interesting than watching it on t.v.

Danielle spent all day Monday with me. We worked on a little something for the baby's room. They are little picture frames that we put coordinating fabric in, and then wrapped them with some ribbon and glued some wooden letters on them. They came out so much better than I could have imagined. I cannot wait to meet our new little granddaughter!

Today I washed a couple loads of laundry and hung them out to dry. The wind has been strong today, so drying didn't take long. I also did some mending. Having a new puppy in the house with sharp little teeth has given me lots of things to mend. He seems to like Piper's little twirly dresses best.

The snow is melting fast, the days are getting longer, and my hands are yearning to work in the garden again. It shouldn't be long now.
Do you have a garden? Is it for vegetables, flowers, or both? We have both, but I love our vegetable garden best.

I'm so glad you stopped by our little red saltbox. I hope you come by again, and maybe bring a friend or two.
I'd love to hear what you've been doing to keep busy.

Blessings,
Julie

  1. Hello Julie, Oh yes, we have lots of flowers and this year we are adding onto our veggie garden. But with me (I feel so guilty and sad) and my fibromyalgia it probably will be Jim doing most of it. I just boss. I am glad he is retired. Our 14 year old granddaughter is saying she is going to help "Papa" but they have a cottage at the lake and you know how that is. There will be times ...I'm sure... she would rather be at the lake. But all the family would really like more fresh veggies this year so Jim is giving it a try. We have some zinnias and other flowers started in our basement with grow lights. I have been doing that for years. It really is fun.

Sounds like you had a wonderful Easter weekend with family, It is fun to have the grown ups but the little ones are so sweet. Our little ones are 14...no baskets this year....just chocolate bunnies and some money! They love the money.

Nice talking to you, Julie. I hope you have a wonderful week!

    Peace and love,
    Susannah

    1. My husband has started some of the veges, but no flowers. I think he is waiting for me to do that. I want to wait until we move into the new house. Our son is not interested in flower gardens, so I will probably just move all of our existing beds to the new house.
It sounds like your husband will have a busy summer, but what a great job to have! My husband does a lot of the work, as well. I like designing it all.
We don't do much for the little ones at Easter. I don't like the mixed message of what the true meaning really is. We talk a lot about Jesus and what He did for us. Piper is at an age where she is really interested in the whole story of Easter. They are just like sponges at her age.
I'm glad to hear you had a great weekend. I also hope your granddaughter spends a lot of time with her Papa this summer! LOL!

      Blessings,
      Julie

    1. LOL! She sure is a big baby! I can't seem to sit in the rocker without her. The puppy is starting to like rocking too! I might be in trouble.

  3. Everything looks wonderful Julie.. Glad you liked the bread.. I love the artisan bread too and have been making it since the NY Times aired it but Terry does not like it.. Can you imagine? So I make the fluffier one as he calls it..
We had ham, too.. Someone was saying here we are celebrating a Jewish tradition as far as the Passover goes by eating ham.. Made me think.. smile..
God bless you, my friend.. xo

    1. My husband says THANK YOU for the recipe. He wasn't as thrilled with the artisan bread recipe, but I am so in love with it and will definitely be making it over and over.
Interesting thought on Passover. Makes me think, too.
      Have a great week, Faye!

  4. Hi Julie: I feel so out of touch, I've been at camp, but first thing I got home I went right to my computer, first to see if there were any messages from Caleb then I check Our Little Red Salt Box, and The Blessed Hearth. I love to go to camp but I miss you guys when I'm gone.
I'm making plans in my head for Thursday night, getting excited. I'll be talking to you

The Potager Garden

Good morning folks! It's another cool rainy day, here in Northern Maine. Our long winter has turned into a long, cold spring. Let's...
