Looking Good…..

I figured I had better get posting more on the house, since I have been receiving LOTS of emails and phone calls from folks asking to see more. You know who you are!
Since our garage got put up, it has become the hang out for all the building materials. Of course it’s almost empty now, because since I last posted…..

The house has been insulated and now has siding!!!
What do you think of the color?

We have an outside entrance to the basement.

And we even have stairs leading up to the main floor from the basement.

Here are just a few photos that I have taken since my last post. I know a few girls that are just waiting to see more. Yes, you ladies that work with my mom….I’m talking about you! Sorry I took so long!!

The heating man has been working hard.

Insulation is being put on the inside walls today.

That’s pretty much all that’s been going on.  I’m told it’s going to go a lot slower from this point.
I’m just happy it’s going!

A Bit of a Break….

I figured I’d take a break today and blog on something other than the house.
As you know my husband and I do love to cook! Well, this past weekend that’s just what we decided to do.

I made a pot of homemade chicken tortellini soup, which I forgot to get a picture of. It got devoured pretty quickly, though. Along with the soup, I made some of Faye’s homemade rosemary bread which went perfectly with the soup. Faye has a wonderful blog called “The Blessed Hearth”. You must go and visit her. If you’ve never tried the bread before, you are missing out. It’s amazing! You can get the recipe here.

Joe made a couple of cakes. Like we needed them, but we do share a lot with friends and family, so nothing stays in our house long.

IMG_8675

Oatmeal cake with Hershey bar chocolate frosting.

IMG_8681

Blueberry sour cream coffee cake.
Both were delicious!

We also did a bit of exploring around our new house. We found out that there are many hazelnut trees surrounding our new home, along with a few raspberry bushes and blackberry bushes. So exciting for us!

IMG_8686

We set the hazelnuts out to dry and froze some of the blackberries. The rest were used to make blackberry jam!

IMG_8693

I guess you can kind of tell that that’s not the only jam we’ve made this year. Last week I made some fresh Maine blueberry cinnamon jam, strawberry rhubarb jam, strawberry pineapple jam and raspberry jam.
Yes! We love jams!

We are expecting some peaches this week, so I’ll be busy with those soon. Mmmm! Peach jam, canned peaches, peach pie filling……

I’m still trying to figure out what to do with the hazelnuts, so if you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear from you!
We didn’t pick a lot, as the squirrels and deer got to them much faster than we did, but we have enough.

I do hope all is going well in your little corner of the world. I always love to hear what your up to so be sure to leave me your comments and let me know.

Blessings,
Julie

Lots to Show You….

WOW! Has there been a lot done since my last post.

IMG_8507

Things finally started to dry out. Yay! No more sweeping water for me!! I was spending sometimes 2 hours a day sweeping water out of the house. Don’t worry. The stuff they use on the floors is made to withstand all the elements. All is good.

IMG_8509

We have a stairway…a temporary one, anyway.

IMG_8524

…and we have walls upstairs.

On the outside of the house….

IMG_8522

…we have shingles.

IMG_8513

Remember I told you that the windows came?

IMG_8533

IMG_8534

Okay, so they look like ordinary windows.
Just wait until you see the outside!

IMG_8525

IMG_8568

The plumber has started his work.

You thought I was going to show you the outside of the windows, didn’t you? Not yet. I need to finish showing you the inside first.

IMG_8580

Our furnace man has been hanging around keeping us well entertained. Oh, and he’s been getting some work done, too. LOL!

IMG_8577

IMG_8569

My husband and I worked for 3 days priming the underside of the porch floor. Seems like a long time, but it’s a big floor. This picture only shows one of the three piles.

Okay, now for the windows...

IMG_8545

Can you see them? How about a closer look…

IMG_8572

They’re red! Joe and I both love them! What do you think?

IMG_8551

The chimney is up, but the stone work isn’t done on it, yet.

IMG_8584

Now it’s time for the garage to be built.

Done!

Okay, what am I missing? Oh! The exterior doors!

The front door….

The back door.

Another day has come to an end, but I’ll have lots more to share with you soon!

Technical Difficulties.....

Unfortunately, we are having problems with our Internet. It's supposed to be up and running on Wednesday. I am borrowing my cousins iPad to write this. I promise to get another post up, with pictures, once I am back online.

A River Runs Through It....

IMG_8486

IMG_8499

Well, as you can see the rain did not hold off. The house has taken on so much rain, that you’d think a river was running through it. This obviously meant that the roof got put on hold and the interior walls got put up instead.

All but the upstairs interior walls are up at this point.

IMG_8495

This is a picture of the sky last night. It looks like a painting. So beautiful I had to mention it.

Okay, so today turned out to be a nice day, and everything but the shingles went up on the roof.

IMG_8519

The upstairs ceilings are being strapped and then the walls will go up in the morning.

IMG_8516

The view from the guest bedroom window. There are a couple of crow perches that may have to come down, but aside from that, I’d say it’s a pretty nice view.

Tomorrow the house will change drastically. The shingles will go up and the windows will go in. Oooh! I didn't tell you that the windows came did I? They sure did, and just wait until you see them!

Julie

The Potager Garden

Good morning folks! It's another cool rainy day, here in Northern Maine. Our long winter has turned into a long, cold spring. Let's...
