A Little Drive in the Country...

....A day or two to slow down. I think these are lyrics to an Eagles song that I love to listen to.

What is it that we love about drives in the country? The fresh air, the scenery, the lack of winter snow? One of our favorite things to do in the summertime is to just drive around old back roads, old routes rarely taken, or even down roads in our area we would never otherwise go. It's such a relaxing thing to do.

Our vegetable garden is coming along nicely. The lettuce is ready to use, but I just haven't gotten out there to pick it yet. Something I really need to do tomorrow. I love a nice salad made from fresh greens.

How is your garden coming along? Have you been eating from it yet? We hoed up the potatoes the other day and a tiny little potato came to the surface. It got me so excited! Our granddaughter was thrilled at the sight of it, and it became her very own. She told us it grew because it was loved. So sweet!

She's right...it takes a certain amount of love to grow a garden.

I hope everyone is doing well and having a fabulous summer in whatever area of the country you are in.

Thanks for stopping by our little red saltbox!

Blessings,
Julie

  1. Hi Julie, We take those old dirt road and head out and we don't care if we don't get home till after dark. So relaxing and beautiful. It's all the things that you see that you normally wouldn't. We haven't been able to go for quite a while. I hope we can go soon.

Tomorrow we are headed back to our daughter's and son-in-law's cottage. That's about an hours drive the back way. We always have to go that way and see all the farms and the mountains in the Finger Lakes.

Our garden is doing well. A rabbit did eat some of the tops off a few of the beets. But otherwise...so far so good. We do have deer here. My husband says that with all the gardens planted on our road here....the deer could have feast for the next year. I'm just praying they stay away.

Have a good Sunday tomorrow, Julie.
    Take care.

  2. Sounds like you're going to have a nice drive to the cottage.

We've had a little bunny hanging around our yard, as well. Our son had to put a scarecrow up to keep him away. So far it's working.

How is your thumb? Did you get the other one done yet? or are you still doing physical therapy?

    Hoping all things are well!

  3. Hi Julie, sorry I missed your reply...My hand and thumb are doing great! 3weeks of therapy and it feels great. No I'm hoping I can wait until at least fall for the other one. It was acting up but it is better now. Jim had two cataract surgeries . One each on the last two Mondays. Gee, could we stop all this? My daughter kiddingly said -" well, Mom and Dad, this is what happens when you get old! "Naughty girl!" She is 42 and I hope you know she really is not a 14 year old brat! HAHAHA.

Your garden looked beautiful. We have had some radishes and they taste very good...not tooo hot...and some lettuce. Granddaughter came to help her Grandpa this week. She loved it. Good We want her to know how to plant and grow a garden.

Well, I hope you have a glorious weekend full of lots of fun!

  4. I'm so glad to hear your doing well! My husband had cataract surgery 2 years ago; both eyes. He healed quickly and is doing great.

Your daughter sounds like our eldest son. LOL! KIDS! Wait until they reach our age....

Our garden isn't doing as well as we would like, but it's a garden. I don't have much time to tend it this year as we have been so involved in getting the house started. LOTS of paperwork and running!

    Pictures to follow soon!

The Potager Garden

Good morning folks! It's another cool rainy day, here in Northern Maine. Our long winter has turned into a long, cold spring. Let's...
